This 22nd April marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Started in 1970, Earth Day is designed to raise awareness of the need for environmental protection worldwide. All people, no matter where they live in the world, have the right to a healthy and sustainable environment.

The right to a healthy and sustainable environment has never been more threatened. The Earth's climate is changing at a rate significantly faster than normal. Human activities increasingly threaten the biodiversity of our planet. Our use of non-sustainable energy sources, like coal and oil, continue to pollute the environment. The voices and actions of individuals are ever more important to ensure that our leaders, local, national and global, take the action necessary to protect our environment.
